A red wheelbarrow
Glazed with rainwater
Besides the white chickens

You are to use the poem on top for a set of typographic studies exploring the relationship between type and expression. Using any of the classic typefaces you were introduced to on the first day, develop one composition for each of the following voices that conveys the text in that voice: A WHISPER, A LIONS ROAR, A SONG.

You may manipulate the type in any way you choose – enlargement, reduction, distortion, repetition, using only a section or parts of the text, etc. For each composition you may use only one typeface, though you may switch typefaces for each of the compositions. Work in an 10x10 inch square format and sketch out some thumbnails before implementing your ideas.  Consider hand assembly (manipulating only printed, or photocopied letter forms) instead of the computer.

The size and placement of your type, the disposition of the text in the composition and your choice of what text you include will be integrated in your final solutions to give voice to its meaning.
